Global stars of Thai golf are set to lead Team Thailand in the inaugural Amata Friendship Cup presented by Toyota from December 21-23 2018, as Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Ariya Jutanugarn, Thingchai Jaidee and Moriya Jutanugarn have confirmed their places within Team Thailand.
The unique event, which will see mixed pairings from Team Thailand and Team Japan compete in the world’s first mixed match-play event, will be staged at Amata Spring Country Club over three days of competition. The announcement of some of Thailand’s best-known and most-loved stars bolsters Team Thailand, which will be led by Thai golfing legend Boonchu Ruangkit and Virada Nirapathpongporn.
Between them, the quartet of Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn, Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Thongchai Jaidee have amassed over 30 victories around the world, including two Major championships, multiple Asian Tour, European Tour and LPGA titles.
Ariya Jutanugarn, who will be joined by her older sister Moriya in the Team Thailand line-up, is likely to be the highest ranked player in the inaugural event, having twice topped the Rolex Women’s World Rankings.
Moriya herself broke into the World’s top-10 earlier this year following her maiden LPGA Tour victory, and will bring more global interest to the event, in one of the few opportunities she has to compete in her homeland.
Having recently accepted special membership status on the PGA Tour, Kiradech Aphibarnrat is perhaps the most recognized Thai player in the world. His flamboyance, both on and off the golf course, have earned him many fans, and the unique, matchplay format of the Amata Friendship Cup is sure to suit his entertaining style of play.
Also confirmed in the Team Thailand line-up is Thongchai Jaidee, one of the country’s most decorated players. ‘TJ’ was the first Thai player to play in all four of the men’s Majors, the first to win on The European Tour and the first to qualify for the Presidents Cup team. In December, he may become the first player to strike a competitive ball in the inaugural Amata Friendship Cup presented by Toyota!
The inaugural Amata Friendship Cup, which was announced earlier this month comprises five sessions of matches; two sessions of mixed foursomes and two sessions of mixed fourballs, each featuring four matches, and taking place on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd December, before twelve singles matches on Sunday will decide the winning team, in this unique Nation vs. Nation clash!
